What Usually Goes Wrong

Broken or sunken heads. Mower damage, foot traffic, and freeze damage crack the housing or snap the riser. Sunken heads spray into the turf instead of over it. Clogged or misaligned nozzles. Grit from the line blocks the nozzle, or the arc has drifted so half the pattern lands on the driveway. Leaking valves. A valve that will not close fully leaves a zone weeping constantly, which shows up as a soggy spot and a high bill. Wiring faults. Rodent damage, corroded splices, and nicked wire from other digging all break the signal between controller and valve. Controller and timer failures. Dead backup batteries, lightning damage, scrambled programs, and failed solenoid outputs. Low pressure across a zone. Yes. Locating buried valve boxes and tracing wire is a routine part of service work on older systems, and we do it without needing the original plans.

Is it worth repairing an old system or should I replace it?

Usually repair. Pipe and valve bodies last a long time. Heads, solenoids, and controllers are the parts that wear out, and those are replaceable individually. We will tell you honestly if a system is past the point where repairs make sense.

How quickly can you come out?

It depends on the season. Spring start-up weeks and the first freeze of fall are our busiest stretches. Call and we will give you a real answer rather than a vague one.

Do I need to be home for a repair?

Not usually, as long as we can reach the controller, the shutoff, and the zones. We will leave a note explaining what we found and what we did.

My controller looks fine but a zone will not run. What now?

That usually points to the valve solenoid or the wire between the controller and the valve, not the controller itself. It is a quick electrical test to tell which.

Do you handle backflow repairs and testing?
